Question #262526

An air compressor works with a compression ratio 6:1 . If the incoming air is at a pressure of 1 bar and temperature of 20 degrees °C , calculate the final air pressure if the final temperature is 68 °C . Note : 1bar = 100 * 10 ^ 3 * Pa

Solution;

Take the adiabatic index of air as 1.4

Given;

P1=1barP_1=1bar =100103Pa100*10^3Pa

T1=20°c=293KT_1=20°c=293K

T2=68°c=341KT_2=68°c=341K

Assume it's an adiabatic compression,which relates temperature and pressure as follows;

P2P1=(T2T1)γγ1\frac{P_2}{P_1}=(\frac{T_2}{T_1})^{\frac{\gamma}{\gamma-1}}

By substitution;

P2=(341293)1.40.4P_2=(\frac{341}{293})^{\frac{1.4}{0.4}} × 1 bar

P2=1.7barP_2=1.7bar
