One of the most undervalued responsibilities in many firms is orienting people to their workplaces and jobs. When it comes to welcome a new employee to your company, an employee handbook and stacks of documentation are no longer sufficient. The most common criticisms of new employee orientation are that it is overwhelming, dull, or that the new hire is left to fend for themselves. Employees believe that the company threw too much information at them, which they were expected to grasp and implement in much too little time (Sherf, Tangirala & Venkataramani, 2019). As a result, the new employee is frequently perplexed and underproductive. He's also more likely to abandon the company in a year's time. Both the company and the employee pay a high price for it. When you multiply this by the number of people you hire each year, you can see how costly turnover might be.

With the continued labor shortage, it's more important than ever to create a positive employee onboarding experience. Organizations, on the other hand, frequently fail to provide effective orientation for new employees because they fail to identify business fundamentals, policies, and processes. Dress code, smoking and drinking limitations, reporting and expense claim procedures, safety protocols, and appropriate emergency procedures are just a few of the policies and procedures that the employee will be told about. New employees are not taught how to communicate in the company's language. New employees should be given a copy of the company handbook, or an employee handbook, if one is available, which contains all of the information that every employee should be aware of. However, reading the handbook from beginning to end may take some time, and you want the new employee to be able to fit in as quickly as possible. You may help the new employee learn faster by giving a glossary of company acronyms, terminologies, and buzzwords. You might also give him a printout of Frequently Asked Questions to look over. Some new employees may even make an effort to scribble down notes. Instead, assist them by offering printouts or handouts.
