Kinetic energy is the part of rest mass energy which is by virtue of motion of mass.

Potential energy is the part of rest mass energy which is stored viz. storing energy in cell, battery etc.

Rest mass energy is the sum of all forms of energy. It is due to by virtue of its total mass available and mass is supposed to be at rest.
