What are the impact of the reform programme on food?
The land reform initiative has been severely chastised for its sluggish pace and apparent lack of poverty alleviation. There has been no econometric evidence of the impact of land transfers to date. This study aims to address that gap by examining the impact of obtaining a land grant on households' food insecurity. Using propensity score matching and univariate probit estimates from two national household surveys, land grant beneficiaries are more food insecure than comparable non-participants. Recursive bivariate probit estimates indicate that selection bias is not the cause of this finding.
