There are certain metrics that can be used to compare and contrast expert systems and experts such as;

a) Human nature; An expert system is a computer program that uses artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to simulate the judgment and behavior of a human or an organization that has expert knowledge and experience in a particular field while an expert is an individual who has capability of recognizing the things in a superior way.

b) Availability; Expert system can be available wherever and at any time while an expert can be available at a specific working day.

c) Problem solving; Expert systems process knowledge expressed in the form of rules and use symbolic reasoning in narrow domain while experts Use knowledge in the form of rules of thumbs or heuristics to solve problem in a narrow domain.

d) Knowledge; An expert deals with his/her brain in which knowledge exists in a compiled form while an expert system provide a clear separation of knowledge from its processing.

An expert is capable of explaining line of reasoning and providing the details while an expert system helps in tracing the rules that produced during a solving a problem and also explain how a that particular conclusion was reached and why specific data was needed.
