Antigone, in Sophocles' Antigone, demonstrates her tenacity and bravery by breaking the law in order to do what she believes is just and advantageous to her and the public. Aristotle himself seemed perplexed by the situation. Aristotle uses Antigone as an example of a bad plot for a tragedy in the Poetica's only mention of the play. He claims that the least tragic plot involves a character who resolves to execute a dreadful deed but fails to do so.
