A mathematics teacher must have a teaching plan in order to successfully impart mathematical knowledge and skills. There are hundreds of mathematical concepts and formulae that must be taught and understood for learning to be deemed effective. To achieve this, different models of teaching agree in the theory of feeding the information to learners in bits and guiding them to make the relevant connections that enhance their understanding of the mathematical concepts and formulae. This is an intricate process that takes months and years, hence the need for a plan to breakdown what amount of information is imparted and within what period. A thorough plan should create room for evaluation of the effectiveness of the teaching methods so that changes can be implemented if necessary.
