Discuss five functions of the local government in the community
Local government builds and develops infrastructure within their jurisdiction. This includes school, hospitals, and roads.
Closely related to this, local governments are in charge of housing and planning. They are often tasked with creating affordable housing for residents. They are also required to coordinate with stakeholders from various sectors in that region to come up with viable plans for development of that region.
Third, local government issues and renews licences and permits for local businesses.
Further, local government collects specific types of taxes from residents which go into development of that region. For example, entertainment tax which is paid when local residents make use of the recreational infrastructure developed by the local government.
Finally, the local government is in charge of waste collection. They do this through their own means or they collaborate with private waste collectors to ensure that the area is clean and the waste is well managed.
