On Sept. 1, 2016, at a 49ers away game, Kaepernick knelt instead of sitting during the national anthem. Nate Boyer, a teammate and former Green Beret, advised him on his decision, and he has since responded to criticism of Kaepernick's conduct in support of kneeling to raise awareness for racial inequality and social justice. A law of sitting to show respect to the country was broken in this case. The protest in this case was about something which was very unjust; racial discrimination. The incidence drew attention since it captured the attention of two former presidents of the US, Barrack Obama and Donald Trump. Kaepernick accted the punishment for his deed without any form of violence.
