Key attributes of inclusive teachers that promote teacher and learner agency and social justice
In the development of an inclusive school community, teacher’s attributes are a major factor in determining the nature of socialization between learners. In most cases, these attributes of teachers determine how the learning process proceeds. Some of the attributes are;
An involving teacher: involving teacher who ensures that the learners are part of the lesson by ensuring participation of all learners. This may be done by asking and allowing all learners to answer and ask questions (Pantić, & Florian, 2015).
A teacher who is a team member unlike an instructor: teamwork works well not only in projects but also in learning situations. A teacher who forms and develops teamwork within the learners will help in ensuring social justice and inclusivity within the school community. Learners will be able to assist each other and understand that as social beings, each person depends on the other (Theoharis, & O’Toole, 2011).
Social teacher: this attribute will allow the teacher to socialize with the learners either during or after the learning sessions. A teacher who allows learners to share and socialize also develops the inclusive community within the learners in a school setting.
