Gender-based violence is caused by several factors like lack of education and livelihood opportunities, poverty bringing in frustration, impunity for crime and abuse, low levels of women's empowerment, and substance abuse.

Gender-based violence effects include; undermined confidence resulting from fears, physical disabilities due to tortures, and fights from violence increase shame, and add up to stigma, and as a result of sexual violence, there is an increased prevalence of HIV/AIDS.

To address gender-based violence, there is a need to educate people on gender equality, emphasize on effects of gender-based violence on the society and development of a country.
