Create five classroom rules that you would use in your own classroom. Next, explain a plan for teaching these rules to students on the first day of class. Consider adding this activity to the Practice part of your Research and Practice Portfolio.
Classroom guidelines that I would implement in my classroom.
1. Pose inquiries.
2. Respect your students and pay attention to what they have to say.
3. Respect the teacher and pay attention to what he or she says.
4. Raise your hand if you want to talk.
5. When the teacher is speaking, remain silent.
Broken norms result in wasted teaching time and emotional stress for teachers in any classroom. The ultimate purpose of classroom order is to make it possible for instruction to take place. Classroom order is not a goal in and of itself, nor is it a means of resolving disruptions. As an effective instructor, I will have fewer classroom disciplinary issues because students are skilled at developing classroom procedures that maximize time available for instruction, not because they are good at restoring discipline. Some children may require rigidity and well-defined boundaries on the first day, while others will benefit from more freedom. To identify what works best for your classroom, I will encourage student buy-in, communicate the rules frequently, and enforce them as needed. I'll make sure the pupils understand that the most important thing to me is that they succeed.
