Discuss, from a functionalist perspective, how schools transmit norms and values to learners. Provide a school -based example of this transmission
Functionalists’ perspective on education is to have a consensus perspective. This helps students to examine society in terms of how it is maintained for the common good. Notably, education empowers students with core values of achievement, competition and equality of opportunity. As a result, this helps to equip them with skills aligning with dynamic changes in politics and legal systems. For example, literacy, numeracy and IT for particular occupations. Moreover, role allocation is all part of this and therefore education allocates people to the most appropriate jobs for their talents, using examinations and qualifications.
