Warm Up:
1. Mental health is arguably the top common issue facing teenagers today. Modern teenagers face real concerns as they’re exposed to a lot of internal and external struggles. Mental stress is a fact of life for the contemporary teenager due to factors such as: pressure from peers, mentors and parents to conform to conflicting expectations, self-esteem issues, academic problems, managing priorities, violence online and offline as well as drugs which have been a part of the teen culture for decades, risky sexual behavior, pressure to belong beyond family, social media pressure, lack of positive role models and materialistic pressure among others. Many teens are resultantly battling depression and anxiety.
2. I once had an overreacted meltdown when my younger sister changed the radio station while my favorite song was playing. Back then, her move made me feel like the world was collapsing. I perceived it as disrespect and invasion of personal space and therefore shouted angrily at her. I turned the issue into a major crisis and remained upset with my sister for over a week, forcing my parents’ intervention. Looking back, the outburst seems silly and was unnecessary. My younger sister had no idea that was my favorite song, something I couldn’t deduce back then.
