Tree Kin
Your family tree surrounds you with friends, ancestors, and siblings. A vertical line corresponds to children whereas a wife refers to a horizontal line. Family trees are usually fairly self-explaining. But Antigone's family history becomes confusing, since Antigone's mother is still her grandma!
Jocasta is her own grandma and her aunt is also their half-brother. The family tree is complex.
The Tale
Antigone is a play composed in 441 BC by Sophocles. It's a tragedy and the last of a series of the three plays called The Oedipus Plays.
This tale begins after the passing of Edipus and the death of Eteocles and Polyneices, his two sons, on the throne. Eteocles had been buried with honours, but Polyneices had been abandoned to decay. As the ancient Greeks thought that without being buried the spirit cannot travel into the next world, this is an everlasting sentence. So Antigone and her niece, Ismene, begin to talk about what they should do for their child.
The plot begins of Antigone attempting to bury her brother by hand many occasions. In the meantime, Creon, the brother of Jocasta, is the king of Thebes. Antigone is captured and imprisoned for attempting to bury her child. Then Antigone hangs down to her blood to cement the conviction that her brother should not be tortured forever. The rest of the family, Antigone's sister Ismene, Creon's wife Eurydice, and Creon's son, Haemon's fiancé, are suicidal, since they didn't think Antigone should be disciplined for wanting to support her brother. So Creon is all alone at the edge.
