This will involve meeting with people within the factory and finding out how they fit into the communication chain. You need to home in on a particular product or activity which is being carried out. There a number of options open to you, for example: 

 

• Follow through the sequence of events which take place when a product is ordered, manufactured, tested and subsequently despatched 

or 

 

• Investigate what happens if a product goes faulty in service and a customer contacts the company help desk  

or 

 

• Find out what happens when a manager decides to purchase and install a new machining centre (or similar piece of capital) equipment in the workshop.
