Why is it necessary to format a magnetic disk before it can be used?

Before using the Hard Disk, we need to format the disk because when we are initialize to use the disk then it search for the bad sectors are present in the hard drive. The formatting of disk also has the capability to erase the bad applications and other virus.

We can use it without the format but it contains tracks and header information for each block on the disk, there are the section set, which describe the disk, it means bad block list, replacement list, the map of the zones on the disk as every disk have various number of sectors, which changes and depending on the radius.
