Why should a hard disk be defragmented regularly?
The defragmentation of the hard disk is needed to put together the file fragments in order to speed up file access. Without the defragmentation, file fragments located all over the hard disk and the disk read head needs to do a lot of work to access all fragments of the file. As a result, fragmented files can take quite a while to open. That's why we need to defragment the hard disk regularly.
