Devices in a network require addresses so that they can be able to be identified uniquely. For communication to take place in a network, the devices must be able to recognize each other. This is the reason that these devices are assigned addresses. IP address version 4 or IP address version 6 can be used to identify these devices. An example of IP version 4 is 192.168.1.1. IP addresses form an important part of a network and therefore require proper management.
