Answer to Question #163523 in Physics for Pixis

Question #163523

Solve the problems and show the complete solution.

An electron is released 10.0cm from a very long non-conducting rod with a unifrom 5.0µC/m. What is the magnitude of the electron’s initial acceleration?

Given: distance r = 10.0cm = 0.1m linear charge density λ = 5.0µC/m = 5.0x10-6 C/m εo permitivity of free space = 8.85x10-12 C2 / N.m2 q of electron = 1.6x10-19 C mass of electron = 9.11x10-31 kg

First : Solve for E = λ / (2π εo r)

Second : Solve for the magnitude of the electron’s initial acceleration, E = F / Q
