Line-of-sight (LoS) communication is a type of communication techniques that implies that the transmitter and the receiver are "visible" (on the same line) to each other and there are no obstacles between the transmitter and receiver. However such phenomenon as diffraction and multipath propagation as well as such techniques as using repeaters, rapid handoff and some other allow presence of some obstruction. For the best LoS communication, the Frenzel zone must be free of obstacles.
For instance, mobile phones which can use LTE frequencies 800-6000 MHz, microwaves with frequencies 300 MHz-300 GHz, and FM radio and satellites use the LoS propagation, whereas visible light frequencies are between approximately 410 and 700 THz.
So the LoS communication at visible frequencies is not the best option possible.
