Explain resistance of conductors.

Resistance is defined as the ratio of voltage and current (Ohm's law). Higher is the resistance, lower is the current flow and vice versa. The resistance of conductors is given by:


R=V/IR = V/I


The conductors offer free flow of electrical current through them. However, the insulators never allow the flow of current as the resistance of insulators is very high or ideally infinite.


The examples of conductors: Copper, Brass, Silver, Gold

The examples of Insulator: Wood, Rubber


The resistance of conductors is governed by the following equation:


R=ρl/AR = ρl/A


where R is the resistance, ρ is specific resistance, l is length of the wire and A is the area of cross-section of the conductor wire.
