Röntgen rays and X-rays are basically two names for the same object - electromagnetic waves with wavelength from 1000 Å to 0.01 Å. Röntgen did the first research dedicated to X-rays, that were observed before but were not studied as a separate phenomenon. Röntgen referred in his publication to the radiation as "X", to indicate that it was an unknown type of radiation. However, after his work was published, many people began to call X-rays Röntgen rays by the name of scientist who discovered the nature of it. Even now in many languages name Röntgen rays is used instead of X-rays.
