Which of the following statements are true? Give reasons for your answer. (10)
(i) F-distribution is always used in goodness of fit.
(ii) Measure of central tendency in a data set refers to the extent to which the
observations are scattered.
(i)
False: There are various other distributions that can be used for measuring goodness of fit for any given data. These include chi-square distribution, normal distribution and binomial distribution. Also, in determining goodness of fit, we use population parameters such as measures of location, shape and other statistical techniques such as computing R-squared to estimate how well the data represents a given distribution.
(ii)
False: Measures of central tendency in a dataset refers to the extent to which the observations are scattered around a typical value or the center point of a given dataset. Therefore, this case should be measure of dispersion in a data set which refers to the extent to which the observations are scattered.
