A software company is a company whose primary products are various forms of software, software technology, distribution, and software product development. They make up the software industry. The company oversees the use of devices storing, retrieving, and sending information. Organizing a software company is a very specialized type of management skill, where experienced persons can turn the organizational problem into a unique benefit. The manager of a software company is usually called the Head of Development (HOD), and reports to the stakeholders. He/she leads the sub-teams directly or via the managers/leaders depending on the size of the organization. Usually teams of up to 10 people are the most operational. All the teams are fully independent and they work separately on the different projects. The structure is quite simple and all the employees reports to one person, what make the situation quite clear.

Information technology HR managers must address the cultural, career pathing and benefits aspects of talent management. As an HR working in a software company below are some career programs to consider;

  • Business analysts- they define the business needs of the market.
  • Software developers- they create the technical specification and write the software.
  • Software testers -they are responsible for the whole process of quality management.
  • Technical writers-they write all the documentation such as user guides.
  • Release specialists -they are responsible for building the whole product and software versioning.
  • User experience designers- their role is to create the design architecture based on business requirements, user research and expertise in usability.
  • Graphic designers- they are normally responsible for the design of the graphical user interface.
  • Maintenance engineers who are behind two, three or more lines of support.
  • Consultants-they are responsible for making the solution operational, especially if some specialist knowledge is necessary. For instance building multidimensional cubes in business intelligence software, integrating with existing solutions, and implementing business scenarios in Business Process Management software.

A recruitment strategy must be based on anticipated needs, such as product development plans or market expansion strategy, and labor market trends. Successful recruiting also requires that HR managers have a command of social media, an ability to recognize how a candidate’s technical experience complements the company's technical needs, and networking skill for referrals. To increase awareness, they will position their company as an 'employer of choice'.
