With relevant examples discuss rights consumers in project or business setting.
The Right to Safety
Means the right to be protected from the marketing of goods and services that endanger life and property. The goods and services purchased should not only meet their immediate needs, but also their long-term interests.
Consumers should insist on the quality of the products as well as the guarantee of the products and services before making a purchase. They should preferably buy quality-marked products such as ISI and AGMARK.
The right to choose entails the right to be assured, wherever possible, of access to a diverse range of goods and services at reasonable prices. In the case of monopolies, it means the right to expect satisfactory quality and service at a reasonable price. It also includes the right to fundamental goods and services. This is because the minority's unrestricted right to choose can imply a denial of the majority's fair share. This right is more easily exercised in a competitive market where a wide range of goods are available at reasonable prices.
The right to seek redress
Means the right to seek redress for unfair trade practices or unscrupulous consumer exploitation. It also includes the consumer's right to a fair resolution of genuine grievances.
Consumers must file a complaint if they have legitimate grievances. Many times, their complaint may be of minor importance, but its impact on society as a whole may be significant. They can also seek redress of their grievances through consumer organizations.
Consumer Education is a legal right.
Means the right to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to be an informed consumer throughout one's life. Consumer ignorance, particularly among rural consumers, is largely to blame for their exploitation. They should be aware of their rights and should exercise them. Only then can successful consumer protection be achieved.
