Trade unions emerged on 19th century in US, Britain and Europe. Workers in smaller associations began to appear in 18th century but they were sporadic till 19th century because of the challenges they encountered from the government and employers. Unions were prosecuted regularly in the United states and Britain under the conspiracy and restraint of trade. Since unions from both countries encountered the same obstacles, their approaches emerged differently, American unions went for collective bargaining in order to enable their workers win economic gains. British movement opt for political activism which later led to formation of labor party.
