Some of Government to Citizen initiatives in Nairobi include slum upgrading since the city has witnessed an unprecedented rise in urban population. Although it is one of the major challenges to the urban economy, it has increased demand for essential services such as housing, health, and education. This confirms the setting up of Government to citizen initiative programmes to address this issue, such as The Kenya Slum Upgrading Programme (KENSUP) that established by the Ministry of Housing and local authorities. Besides, the program's key benefits are to improve the livelihoods of people living and working in slums through the provision of infrastructure security and providing opportunities for income generation. As seen recently, in Nairobi, an estimated 1.5 million people who live in slums have been catered for their livelihoods.
