Explain communication flow, the three common communication networks, and how managers should handle the grapevine.
Communication flow is communication patterns within an organization involving distinct types of employees and specific functional parts of the organization. There are four types of communication flow; diagonal communication crosses both areas of work and levels of the organization, downward communication flows from managers downwards to employees, lateral communication is communication among workers in the same level in the organization, and upward communication is the flow of communication from employees to managers (Tripathy, 2018). Common communication networks include; informal and formal networks. The three are downward communication in informal communication and interpersonal and horizontal communication informal networks. Managers should handle the grapevine by not ignoring it but should communicate proactively and offer a lot of information to the system.
