Beckwourth made a tremendous contribution in 1850 by discovering what came to be known as Beckwourth Pass, which is a low- elevation pass through Sierra Nevada mountain chain. He made significant improvement in 1851 of what became Beckwourth Trail that was originally an American path cutting through the mountain.
