Some babies may begin crawling on their own while others need encouragement to start crawling. Babies should be given plenty of tummy time from the time of their birth. Tummy time enables the babies to play on the belly which provides additional muscle strength in the belly, arms, shoulder, and trunk. This practice makes it easy for them to support their body, to gain confidence, and to crawl with ease. The caregiver or the parent can encourage crawling confidence in the baby by placing the palms of their hands behind the child’s feet when she is on fours. Providing additional support stabilises the baby and gives them a suitable object to push off without fear of failing over. This encourages them to stay on their fours and makes the process much easier.
