Discuss how pre reading, post reading and skimming resonate with your experience of critical reading and/or the teaching of critical reading skills
Pre-reading helps one to have guidance, and background knowledge of the subject matter. It makes one to become familiar with subject matter and to get used to it. Post reading, on the other hand makes a person to summarize, reflect and question what they have read. This makes the reader to note down important points in the topic, which views they agree with and which ones they disagree with. After this, a reader is at liberty to choose what they support or correct from what is read. Post reading makes a reader to come to terms with the topic or subject matter under discussion to make a decision based on his views. Skimming is done during the pre-reading stage and the post-reading period. This is where the reader notes important points they can use to either support or disagree with the views on the topic. Moreover, some of the points penned down by the reader can be used to support his or her own views. All these increases the critical thinking capability of a person.
Pre-reading helps the reader to know the reason behind the author have specific views on a certain manner. Thus expands the brain of a critical thinker, making him to view a subject matter from two perspectives. Post-reading elaborately makes the critical thinker to understand the views of the author and also helps them to formulate their own theories. Therefore, pre-reading and post-reading improves the critical thinking of a reader.
