1.Increase my knowledge of national identities and societies: as a history student, I will investigate how nations were founded through a shared past and shared identity. Furthermore, learning from the past improves society! History is the study of change, so understand it.
2.The lesson of the story is that humans have a tendency to declare ultimate truth based on their limited, subjective experience while ignoring the constrained, subjective experiences of others, which may be equally accurate.
The boy in the "Elephant in Me" could not be allowed to explain himself that it is the bullying that made him make such a noise and ends up in detention because of limited subjective accounts of the class president.
