Describe the relationship between mental health and physical fitness
Research shows that people who exercise regularly have better mental health and emotional wellbeing, and lower rates of mental illness. Taking up exercise seems to reduce the risk of developing mental illness. It also seems to help in treating some mental health conditions, like depression and anxiety. When you exercise, you are not only receiving physical benefits but also mental benefits too.
Mentally, exercising improves your mood and reduces both short-term and long-term depression, and physically, exercising lowers the risk of certain medical conditions and strengthens bones and muscles. If you struggle to work out every day, look for ways to implement exercise in your daily activities like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or doing calf raises while standing in line. By taking the time to exercise, you will be able to decrease your stress levels and maintain an active lifestyle.
