discuss the idea of separating speakers of English into first, second and home language categories. Based on your experience and your understanding of the process of learning English and using English in the classroom, do you think it is fair to separate the teaching of the English according to whether one speaks it as a first, second or home language?
In your discussion, state your views and provide THREE different reasons for the views you have shared. Make use of at least three references to support your argument.
Your answer must be presented in an essay format, i.e., it must be written in continuous prose and contain a clear introductory paragraph (in which you introduce the purpose of the essay); three body paragraphs (in which you discuss your reasons) and a concluding paragraph (in which you summarize the key ideas presented in your essay.
Creating boundaries among leaners of the English language enhances the ability of the instructor to note particular areas which require attention during the process of learning. For instance, native english speakers are easiet to handle in class followed by those learners who speak it as a second language. The other category is the hardest to introduce to English vocubulary.
Categorizing these speakers saves time and resources for the instructor and the instutions of learning. Whereby only a particular group which may be affected is considered during acquisition of resources vital in learning.
Appreciation of the learner's first language, is another vital reason as to why caterogorizing the learners is necessary. In essence, some first languages are relatives of the English language while others differ by far. By knowing and understing this relationship teaching learners is easy.
In my view, categorization is the best creteria in ensuring that the English language is well taught and understood among learners across the world.
