Define the term "civil disobedience". Is civil disobedience relevant in today's society compared to the 1960's? If so, why?
Civil disobedience, also known as passive opposition, is the refusal to consider the demands or directives of a political elite or those in positions of power without resorting to violence or aggressive acts of disagreement; its primary goal is to force the administration or those in positions of power to make commitments. Civil disobedience has been employed as a key strategy and doctrine by nationalist parties in Africa and India, the American civil rights struggle, labour, anti-war, and other revolutionary groups in many countries.
