Simon's vision teaches him that the beast exists inside all human beings. The vision is fulfilled when he is killed. He comes face-to-face with the beast that exists within the other boys and as the boys kill Simon, they are acting on the savage instinct that the beast represents. In chapter 10, Ralph expresses that the beast that came out of the forest was Simon, and that they murdered him, to signify an end of hope.
