Generally, diffusion is the movement of molecules or atoms. In a semi-conductor, diffusion occurs when concentration gradients of electrons are more significant on one semi-conductor region than the other. The difference in the concentration gradient cause electrons to move from the region of higher concentration to the lowly concentered area. The concentration of electrons changes according to the distance from the doping surface. In any semi-conductor, charge carries are not uniform, and concentration varies from one end to the other end of the semi-conductor. As a result of this concentration gradient of electrons at opposite regions, electrons diffuse through the surface. This process is one of the technological importance of diffusion in science and is used in material processing.
