Reading is the most crucial academic skill because it is the foundation for learning.

Grade 3 reading policy can be achieved through ;

i. Decoding- a vital step in the early reading process where kids use the skill to sound out words they have heard before but haven't seen written out. Decoding relies on an early language skill called phonemic awareness that lets kids hear individual sounds in words. Recoding helps kids to connect individual sounds to letters, for instance, to read the word sun, kids must know that the letter s makes the /s/ sound.

Most kids learn the broad skill of phonological awareness naturally, by being exposed to books, songs and rhymes.

ii. Fluency - to read fluently kids need to instantly recognize words, including sounds they can't sound out. Fluency is important because it speeds up the rate at which they can read and understand text. The main way to help build fluency is through practice reading books. It is important to pick out books that are at the right level of difficulty for kids and mostly the ones they prefer.
