i) Diachronic and Synchronic Linguistics.
Synchronic and diachronic linguistics are the two main categories of linguistics. Synchronic linguistics is also referred to as descriptive linguistics and involves studying language at a specific time. In contracts, diachronic refers to the study of language through various periods in history.
ii) Standard and non-standard dialects.
Standard dialects refer to a form of language that is universal and are used for international communication. In contracts, non-standard dialects have different grammar, pronunciation and lexis, and they are used differently in various regions.
iii) Morphology.
Morphology is a linguistics discipline that deals with the study structure of words; it defines the ways different words are formed and interact with other words.
iv) Prescriptive Vs. Descriptive Grammar'
Descriptive grammar refers to studying the structure and rules of language as speakers in day-to-day life use them. It involves the study of all varieties of languages. On the other hand, perspective grammar set out a number of rules that helps to distinguish between good or wrong usage of language
