The government should use the following strategies to ensure that members of the community have respect for diversity.

1.   Promote team work. The government should encourage its people to focus on each other’s strengths and create cross-functional teams so that individuals from different backgrounds can work together. For example, it’s important you work on eliminating generation gaps. Employers should encourage and support employees to ensure they feel that they have a voice and seat at the table.

2.   Provide Diversity Training. The government should provide diversity training as a way of encouraging people to be accepting differences and value the opinions of others. This is because awareness training helps foster and strengthen diversity initiatives in the community.

3.   Recognizing and celebrating important events or festivals for each ethnic group in the community: such involvement programs will boost a diversity spirit and enable community members to learn about other different cultures and develop meaningful relations with other community members.

4.   Government officials in communities can also work with members of demoted groups in the community, conduct participatory action research and provide tools for enabling and self-directed change so as to encounter harassment.

5.   Practicing cultural humility in day-to-day government happenings in the community. This cultural humility includes understanding extents of diversity and how to work within diverse community contexts while designing community programs. It also includes identifying and expressing power and culture undercurrents within communities in which they work.

6.   The government should also collaborate with organizations in the community such as cultural groups, religious organizations and implanting involvements into these settings as this will have positive impact on the people in the community.
