Explain the narrative in the novel Small Things by Nthikeng Mohlele
The novel Small Things by Nthikeng Mohlele is a story of an orphan raised by Catholics, father Goebbels, until he is expelled and taken in by Bra Todd , a jazz musician in sophiatown. He finds work as a journalist but he's jailed for 18 years by apartheid rule. The novel picks up after his release in post apartheid rule in South Africa, he continues to be obsessed by his childhood girlfriend and take refuge in a new mistress. Often times he's homeless , wandering in the streets with a stray dog, the novel follows his thoughts and the surprising twists in his life
The trumpet, his other great love becomes his main source of happiness along with writing. The elusive nature of love is a recurring theme in the novel.
