Intercultural concerns are a major concern for libraries. They have the potential to serve as a social gathering spot. Diverse activities and services allow people of all ethnic backgrounds to appreciate their cultural heritage while also cultivating their mother tongue. Libraries make it easier to learn a new country's language and so obtain access to the new society and participate in its cultural life. Diversity is advantageous not only because it allows companies to better understand and serve varied populations of consumers, but also because organizations that embrace diversity are more successful in the long run. Organizations that rely on people who are all the same gender, color, and age, who think and act in similar ways, and who have similar histories and attitudes, are more likely to succumb to biases, which can hurt the organization's effectiveness. Diversity in the staff must be a cornerstone of public library plans if they are to prosper in a continually changing world.
