Multilingualism helps to maintain good brain health. It helps to concentrate and process information. It also prolongs the onset of dementia.

 Multilingualism has an academic advantage whereby teachers are able yo engage students by their background knowledge, prior experiences and understanding. Teachers must enhance transfer of skills and concepts to English from the students' home language since they are encoded in their home languages. Teachers permit meaningful learning opportunities by creating relationships with their students and their social networks. Also, teaching practices that use multilingual ways of speaking, reading and writing permits learners to expand access to text in more than one language, and access the cultural resources that facilitate the personal importance of their classwork.
