One of the most important relationships in the novel is between the main character and Desiree. It Is in this relationship that we can often trace elements of one of the major themes in the novel: love.
Write an essay in which you discuss the changing nature of the relationship between the main character and Desiree. With a body of 3-5 paragraphs.
The extract begins on p46 of the novel with the words," I think: there are many kinds of love.." end on p47 with the words " her mind toils with estimations, dicoveries and protests known only to herself"
Small things is written in a linear processes sequential ,each event leads to other one .the narrator begins his story with him being in love with Desiree ,he does not say who his name is but revealall his challenges good and bad. He believes in love but fails to commit his love to Desiree nor Mercedes, leaving him to spend the remaining of his life alone further leading us to the theme of loneliness being explored. he yet survive tragedy throughout his life ,18 years of imprisonment ,being homeless for years and being shot yet he dies of being beaten by bees. Hence the title small things it is amazing how his life has survive all of this challenges but yet he died from bees.
