Team building refers to the ability to identify and motivate individual employees to form a team that stays together, works together and achieves together. It basically involves formation of groups to achieve goals. Team building activities improves teamwork and encourages teams to work as a unit. They also boost employee engagement, improve communication skills and can also help develop and identify leadership skills. Examples of team building activities include scavenger hunts, fun charades, blind retrievers and board games.


Team development on the other hand refers to a process in which a team takes time to explore its potential. It also refers to the process of learning to work together effectively. The stages of team development include forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. Team development creates a captivating atmosphere by encouraging co-operation, teamwork, interdependence and by building trust among team members. An example of team development is when co-workers from different departments work on the same project.
