Identify THREE principles of symbolic interactionism and discuss how you, as a teacher, would apply these principles in the classroom
The three core principles of Symbolic Interpretation include meaning, language and thought.
Meanings suggests that individuals behave in a certain way towards others based on the meaning they have given to them. Eg, when we think about the Pope, an image of sort comes in mind. This image and predisposed assumption of the Pope will affect how we behave and act around him.
Language is seen as another core principle since it aids in the formulation of the assumptions and meanings. The act of naming something creates meaning and holds some knowledge that is converted into names through language. Eg. Different languages have different names for the same things.
Thought relates to the mental process of connecting names, meanings and symbols. An easy example of thought is to think.
