Summary of general aims of the south african curriculum
Aims
(a) The National Curriculum Statement for Grades R through 12 expresses what is considered to be important knowledge, skills, and values to learn.
(b)The National Curriculum Statement Grades R - 12 is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for self-fulfillment and meaningful participation in society as citizens of a free country, regardless of their socioeconomic background, race, gender, physical ability, or intellectual ability; and to provide access to higher education.
(c) The following concepts underpin the National Curriculum Statement for Grades R through 12: Social revolution; ensuring that historical educational inequities be corrected and that all segments of our people have equal educational opportunity; Active and critical learning; rather than rote and uncritical learning, active and critical learning is encouraged.
(d) The National Curriculum Statement for Grades R-12 aims to produce learners who can: identify and solve problems and make decisions using critical and creative thinking; work effectively as individuals and as members of a team; organize and manage themselves and their activities responsibly and effectively; collect, analyze, organize, and critically evaluate information; and communicate effectively.
