Can you suggest strategies that have or may be enabled to combat the problem of illicit drug use and then identify possible solutions?
Strategies:
Drug use at an early age can result in irreversible damage to brain chemistry exposing the user to addiction. Secondly, drug use is associate with underlying social and psychological issues such as poverty, mental disorders, among others. Hence, a strategy of addressing the underlying cause of illicit drug use. These issues include poverty, mental disorders, and early exposure to drug use. The third strategy is promoting social education and counselling for at-risk population on the dangers of illicit drugs.
Solution:
Eradication (the physical destruction) of illicit crops remains an important strategy for decreasing the production of illegal drugs and preventing them from entering the United States, or drug markets.
Lack of government authority in some countries makes it easier for farmers to grow illicit crops, and eradication can help pave the way for improved, long-term government presence which leads to increased security. This reduces the influence of criminal organizations and encourages the growth of illicit crops used in the manufacture of illicit drugs.
