The top 10 most challenged books of 2019 feature prevalent themes. The dominant regularly cited theme among the books is LGBTQIA+ content. Other reasons for book challenges include: extreme sexual overtones, extremism in political agendas, magic, witchcraft, profane language and conflicting with either religious viewpoint or the traditional family structure.
